Description

W. TEUTEBERG.
v INSIDE BLIND. N0. 2 89,l76.- Patented Nov. 2'7, 1883.
INVENTOR BY M ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS. vhnmumo im, Wammglan D c KNITED STATES ATENT Fries,
YVILLIAll I TEUTEBERG, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
INSIDE BLIND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,176, dated November 27, 1883.
Application filed March 6, i883. (N0 model.)
To 015 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM TEUTEBER-G, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Inside Window Shutter or Blind, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
lily invention relates to that class of win dow shutters or blinds that are adapted to be raised and lowered by means of cords; and it consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. in which the figure is a broken perspective View of my new and improved window-shutter.
A A represent the slats of the blind or shutter. These are formed with the projections a at their ends, which fitin the grooves b b of the side pieces, B B, of the window-frame. The slats are suspended from the upper crosspiece, 0, of the window-frame by means of the strong flexible bands or tapes D D, one end of each of which is made fast to the said upper cross-piece, while the other ends of the bands or tapes have attached to them the cords c c, which are joined above the crosspiece to the single cord 0, and pass over the pulleys (Z d, so that by drawing down upon the cord 0 the angle of the slats A may be changed as desired.
For raising and lowering the shutter or blind I provide the cords ff, which are attached to the single outside cord, f, and pass over the four pulleys g, journaled in openings through the cross-piece Qthence down through the slots hh, made in the slats A, and are attached at their lower ends to the bottom slat, A, as shown, so that by drawing down upon the outside cord, f, the slats A and A may be drawn up in the grooves b from the bottom to the top of the window-frame, or raised or lowered to any desired intermediate position; and suitable means will be provided and attached to the window-casing for holding the cords f and 0, so that the slats may be held at any desired position. The slat A is larger than the slats A; or it may be weighted, for
drawing the blinds when the cord f is released from its holding or fastening device. The slats A are held at regular distances apart between the folded tapes D by means of the sheet-metal elliptical ringsjj, that are secured to the tapes, as shown. Constructed in this manner, it will be seen that the blinds are very simple and cheap and are very convenient and easy to operate.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1, In a blind or shutter, the slats A A, connected by bands D D, spaced by rings, and provided with end projections traveling in grooves of frames B, in combination with the cords c c, joined above the cross-piece to the single cord 0, and attached to one end of the bands, while their other end is attached to the upper crosspiece, and the pulleys d d, whereby the angle of the slats may be varied, as described.
2. The window shutter or blind made substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of the slotted slats A and weighted lower slat, A, that run in the grooves b, and are attached to the tapes D by the rings j, in combination with the cords c c and f f, and suitable pulleys arranged to operate substan tially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
