Abstract
27,259. Annand, R. C., and Peel, F. Dec. 30. Stereotype.-Relates to stereotype casting machines or buxes provided with an horizontal core or mandrel, and consists (1) in rolling the mandrel into and out of position in the shell by a rail and rack or quadrant or otherwise, and (2) in providing means for raising the plate off the mandrel to give clearance for the saw which cuts off the git. In the machine shown in Fig. 1, the mandrel 4 is provided with toothed segments 5, and the framing is provided with corresponding racks 2 and also with plain segmental faces 3 forming rails or supports for the mandrel. In order to facilitate rolling, the mandrel is made with a heavy side as shown at 9. The mandrel is operated by means of a handle 6 and arms and levers 7, 8. In order to raise the plate 21<a>, the side gauges 19 are formed with curved recesses 20 into which the metal of the git flows, and the lip 15 is arranged to slide against the git and press the plate off the mandrel, the fillets in the recesses 20 ensuring that the plate shall rise and not merely turn round on the mandrel. The lip 15 is automatically actuated by connexions 14, 12, 11 with the arms 8, or by contact with stops or abutments, or otherwise. In an arrangement for casting third or quarter segment plates, the racks and rails on the framing are straight, and the plate is lifted by stationary stops or lifter arms engaging under the git.
