Abstract

26,883. Huber, C. Dec. 23. Hydraulic presses.-Presses for producing very great pressures, such as for making copper tubes and rods or for embossing metals, are constructed to multiply the hydraulic pressure inside the receiver, so that the cylinder of the multiplying- press is subjected to liquid pressure on both sides. Fig. 1 shows the form of the apparatus used for producing tubes or bars. Inside the receiver a is placed another cylinder fitted with two pistons f, g. Pressure is produced in the chamber a by the piston b and this pressure is intensified by reason of the different diameters of the pistons f, g. The chamber e, which may contain any medium-hard metal, communicates with the passage h through the screw end i. The die l is subject to pressure on both sides by forming passages above it to allow the fluid to act upon its upper face. Fig. 2 shows a form of the apparatus for embossing medals. The metal blank is placed between two pairs of pistons f, g, the latter being arranged inside the receivar a, as before described.
