Abstract

Pug-mills ; moulding bricks.-The column of clay is lubricated on all sides, as it is forced through the die a of an extrusion machine, by oil, water, steam, or other lubricant, forced through fine perforations in detachable lining-plates d, Fig. 1 ; or the walls of the die may be cast or formed with perforations and channels c, as shown in Fig. 5. If the steam or lubricant is supplied to the die at a low pressure, the perforations may be protected by shields g, as shown in Fig. 6. A liquid lubricant may be supplied to the die by a vertical cylinder containing a piston forced down by detachable weights. The lubricant is fed to the cylinder by a force-pump.
