Abstract

20,591. Schmick, H. J. Oct. 11. Pulley - blocks.- Relates to hoisting- devices, and more particularly to the gearing thereof. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the hand chainwheel 5 and a head 2 revolve together. On the face of the head 2 are projecting members 14, Fig. 5, engaging the worm or gear wheel 15 on the shaft of the load wheel or drum. The members 14 are cycloidal in form, and, in order to prevent binding, the angle of the outer faces is made to increase constantly from the root to the point of the teeth, while the angle of the inner faces diminishes constantly in the same ratio. A wheel 25, provided with internal ratchet teeth and under the control of a spring-controlled brake block 29, is locked to the head 2 when lowering by a spring pawl 27, so as to sustain the load. In a modification, Fig. 6, the self-sustaining gear is dispensed with, the load being supported directly by the projections 14 on the head 2, which is driven from a crown pinion 35.
