Abstract

[Published under Patents Act, 1901.] Anti-ballooning arrangements; thread - guides.- Ring spinning-frames in which the thread is lapped two or more times round the traveller are provided with anti-ballooning frames a which prevent oscillation of the thread in the vertical part and counteract the effect of centrifugal force, thereby reducing breakage and permitting lighter travellers to be used. The frame is cone-shaped, the generating line being slightly convex or concave, and may be constructed of a spiral wire, a series of rings arranged one above another, a funnel with completely closed sides, or a frame with a conical opening and formed with spiral or parallel interior grooves so as to leave projecting ribs against which the yarn rubs. The frame rises and falls with the ring rail for some work, but in dealing with fine and soft yarns it is operated by an independent cam whereby its distance from the rail is varied so as to vary the effect of the centrifugal force on the yarn between the bottom of the frame and the traveller, and consequently the tension on the yarn passing to the cop according to the diameter in which it is wound. When the frame is funnel-shaped with closed sides, it maybe formed with a helical slot for the introduction of the thread. This can also be effected by forming the frame in several pirts so as to open out in any direction. The frames are hinged so that they may be turned aside or back collectively or independently for doffing.
