Locking nuts.-The washer 3 is prevented from rotating by the projection 4 engaging a groove 2 in the bolt 1, or by studs engaging recesses in the work, and is provided with one or more spring teeth 8<a>, which are formed by splitting the washer longitudinally and turning up the end of the tongue, and which engage ratchet teeth 8 on the base of the nut 5. The teeth 8, 8<a> may extend to the central bore, or a solid foundation 13 may be left around the bore, as shown in Fig. 3.
