Abstract

Hinging, methods of; stays.-A method of hinging the top of a desk to the body consists in connecting an auxiliary piece c, at each end, by two jointed links d, e, to the desk body a. To retain the top in any position, a slotted link f, connected at the junction of d and e, slides over a bolt h passing through the body a and provided with a thumb nut. Instead of, or in addition to, the link f a slotted link i can be used, and a link n, pivoted to the top at o, limits the movement of the latter when turned up on the hinge s. To adjust the top in any position, the clamping bolts h are slackened, the top simply pulled or raised, and the bolts h tightened. Struts, such as hooks p engaging pins q, are used when the top b has been raised to the horizontal position.
