Abstract

11,408. Stein, A. May 31. Stays.-Collapsible perambulators, baby carriages, mail carts, and the like are made tu fold up compactly with the wheels inside. The bottom of the vehicle consists of two parts 2,3, Fig. 3, hinged to the middle 1 and having the wheels 9, 10 on one side borne on short axles by springs 12, Fig. 7, secured to longitudinal axles which are carried in brackets 15 and cranked at 21 for attachment to forked stays 17, the inner ends of which have projections 22, Fig. 9, adapted to engage in the outer or inner end of a slot 23 in the carriage bottom in the open or folded position respectively. The slot has narrowed middle and recessed end portions, as shown, to give stability in either position. The wheels 9<1>, 10<1> on the other side are similarly mounted, but on longer brackets 15<a>, Fig. 6<a>, to allow them to fold over the others, and the longitudinal axles are cranked upwards to take the corresponding forked stays 16, which are at the inner or outer end of their slots in the open or folded position.
