Abstract
10,270. Justice, P. M., [Otis Elevator Co.]. May 16. Lifts.-Relates to rope drives for lifts. The counterweight 5 is integral with a sheave 9 constructed as shown in Fig. 3. The driving-rope B is endless, and passes over pulleys 13, 14, 15, 16 and is passed through extensions on the counterweight and the framework of the sheave so as to be in duplicate. By this means, draught in either direction has no effect to tilt the sheave 9. The lifting-rope 4 is also attached to the framework of the sheave. The pulley 14 is driven from a reversible motor M, while the pulley 15 has suspended from it a weight sliding in guides to maintain the requisite tension of the driving- rope.
