9376. Robinson, T. r. May 4. Gas and explosive-vapour engines, igniting in. In multiple-cylinder engines, the flame or hot gases from one cylinder which is nearing the end of its out - stroke is used to ignite the charge in another cylinder. This is effected by connecting all the cylinders by a common passage 17 with valves 18 ... 23. The sequence of the ignitions follows the numbers 1 ... 6. The engines may be readily converted into reversing engines. In the Provisional Specification, single rotary valves are described. By the invention, exposed flames or sparks are avoided. At starting, a sparking-plug 26 is employed.
