Abstract

7948. Crossley, W. J., and Coster, A. V. April 14. Gas and like engines, valve-gear. In four-strokecycle engines, the admission valve I is worked by the eccentric B that works the exhaust valve C. The valve I is timed to open just before the valve C closes, and it is released to allow it to close by a trip-gear T, V, W, Fig. 3, or by the toggle-links K, Fig. 1, being forced out of line. The cam V or stop O for displacing the releasing-mechanism may be controlled by the governor. The gas valve and igniter may be similarly worked. The exhaust valve is opened through differential levers E, F. Reversing.-A Stevenson's link-motion or other reversing-gear may be substituted for the single eccentric.
