Filing-machines.-In a machine for finishing sewing-machine cams of the form shown in Fig. 1, the cam is clamped eccentrically on a projection 7 of a shaft 5 held in bearings in a slide 13 pressed upwards by springs 10. The edge of the cam abuts against an adjustable slide 12, and thus, as the shaft is rotated by a chain-wheel 4 or other means and a file 6 is reciprocated in the slide 17, a finished surface is obtained on the cam. In a modification, the eccentricity of the projection 7 is adjusted by means of a slot in a disk fitted on the end of the shaft.
