Looms, warp tension regulating in.-To prevent the production of reedy cloth, a rod n, with rounded ends, is placed beneath the warps between the front lease-rod h and the healds, and, when the lay is within one inch of the fell, the rod n is raised and lifts all the warps, or all except a few at each selvage, so that the warps in the lower half of the shed are tightened and the warps in the upper half of the shed are slackened, and the newly inserted weft is relieved from the strain of the opening shed. When the lay moves backwards, the rod n is lowered. The rod n is carried by arms l adjustably connected to levers k, which are secured to the ends of the rock-shaft d of the lay-swords, preferably by a loose cap and bolts. The arms l rest against the crank shaft e, and are held in position by springs m. A wire may be used instead of the rod n, and the arms l may be provided with a renewable wooden block bearing against the crank shaft, and with hooks passing over the crank shaft to prevent the parts from dropping amongst the loom mechanism if they become detached.
