Abstract

26,966. K÷nig, A. Dec. 10. Angle-measuring instruments.-Relates to instruments in which the direction of an object is measured in relation to the direction of a terrestrial force, for example, gravity or the horizontal component of the earth's magnetism. The observing- telescope is held in the hand, while the scale is free to move in the field of the telescope under the influence of the directing force. Fig. 1 shows the application to an azimuth instrument. The transparent cylindrical scale s moves with the compass needle ni in the focal plane F of the telescope. In modifications shown in Figs. 3, 5, and 6, a plane transparent scale is used, the image being erected by the roof-faced prism a, Fig. 3, or the Porro reversing system I, II, III, IV, Figs. 5 and 6. Fig. 2 shows the application to a clinometer, the scale being controlled by the pendulum p. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, a flat scale is used together with Prandl and roof-faced prisms. The radius of the scale is in all cases equal to the focal length of the objective.
