Abstract

26,418. Wilson, L. Dec. 5. Propelling and steering by water jets. - Centrifugal pumps driven by vertical high-speed turbines or motors are used for producing water jets of high velocity. Several pumps are used, and are arranged in series so that the first pump takes water from the sea and delivers it to another pump running at a higher speed and giving it a corresponding increase in velocity. After passing through all the pumps, the water is delivered at a high velocity to the sea. To permit the discharge to be either at the bow or stern, the pumps are fitted with double inlet pipes B, C and double discharge pipes F, G, provided with valves to effect the proper distribution of the water.
