Abstract
26,262. Scholl, C. Dec. 2. Magnetic separators. - A magnetic separator comprises an inclined, slowly rotating, flat disc which is provided with several rows of magnets arranged radially and with their upper ends flush with the face of the disc. The magnets 13 lie side by side, in slots in the disc 8, and are held between two stirrups or bent arms 9 by means of screws 11, 12. The upper screw 12 is of non-magnetic material and lies between the bent arms and flush with the upper ends of the magnets. The disc is mounted on a spindle 2 located in a frame 1, and may be driven by bevel gearing. Pulverized or like material, scattered in a thin layer upon the disc, slides down, the particles of iron &c. being retained by the magnets. These particles are removed by brushes attached to the arms 19 of a rotary scraper, which is mounted on a spindle 3 also located in the frame 1 and driven by the same gearing as the spindle 2 ; the arms engage over one-half of the disc only.
