Abstract
22,654. Fox, H. S. Oct. 20. Filling with liquids.-The apparatus provides means for filling casks with liquids, or for introducing into casks partially full, primings, finings, or the like, at the same time collecting the overflow. The liquid to be introduced is contained in a tank b, which may form one compartment of a double tank, the compartment c being used to receive any displaced liquid. A pump d is used to force the liquid into the cask, the delivery tube d<2> extending nearly to the bottom of the cask and passing through a conical plug fitting the bunghole, which has an overflow pipe e leading to the tank c, or preferably passing through a combined plug aud valve as described in Specification No. 11,945, A.D. 1901. This apparatus is such that turning the handle f through a small arc opens a valve, permitting the liquid to enter the barrel, and simultaneously expands a packing around the plug, making it airtight. The quantity of liquid transferred from the tank to the cask may be measured by means of the pump, which is of known capacity. The tank need not be partitioned if the liquid to be introduced is of the same kind as that already in the cask.
