Abstract

21,571. Land, H. S. Oct. 7. Screwing; ; toolholders.-The device comprises ordinary turning- tools and adjustable self-opening screwing-dies, and interchangeable rotary brushes or guides shaped according to the work to be dealt with. The shank a<5>, Fig. 3, of the body A is secured in the turret and is hollow to allow of the introduction of a centering or drilling tool. A flanged ring F opens on to the front part a<4> and retains the bush D in place. The bush has a hole d corresponding to the cross-section of the stock and situated eccentrically or otherwise with regard to the shank to be turned and screwed. A ball race d' is provided. The ring F may engage the body A by a sliding connection. The screwing-head is secured to the ring F and has dies C sliding in guides and controlled by pins c engaging cam-slots in a disc E partly rotatable on a bush a<3>. A lever c', Fig. 4, adjustably secured in a pivoted piece c<5> has a pin engaging a slot in a lever c<1> hinged to one of the dies, and a finger engaging hehind an adjustable head c<8> on a spring bolt passing through a slot to engage an adjustable stop on the disc E. When the head of the part being screwed contacts with the lever c<4>, the spring bolt is disengaged and the disc E is rotated by a spring e<3> to open the dies. Various forms of levers c<4> adjustable or not may be used according to the character of the work. A slide H in front of the screwing-die may be pushed inward to act as a stop when feeding forward the stock.
