The screw is pointed and is arranged to press upon a metal plate fixed vertically to the face of the side or middle bar of the upper sash. To prevent draught, the meeting bar of the lower sash has an L-section metal strip m, Fig. 6, hinged to a fixing-plate n. The strip m can be turned over the space which is formed between the meeting bars by the forcing apart of the sashes by the screw fastening.
