Tubbing a is used to line a shaft, sunk by the aid of freezing-tubes b, the shaft being deepened and lined with smaller tubbing c. To prevent water from entering from below, the bottom part of the tubbing c is filled with concrete d. A flanged ring e serves to join the rings a, c and is formed with holes f in which are fixed stand-pipes g. The Provisional Specification states that the pipes g may be provided with controlling-cooks.
