Abstract
15,513. Sexton, M. J., and Sexton, J. J. July 12. Rail-cleaners. - An arrangement for cleaning tram and similar rails consists of a lever C, Figs. 2 and 3, free to oscillate between curved guides B, and provided with a shoe F, which is formed with a central blade for cleaning the groove and is pressed against the rail by a spring D. The guideplate B is bolted to a bracket A, slots being provided in both for lateral adjustment, and the bracket A is bolted to the vehicle frame I. The shoe F is connected to the lever C by a scarf joint, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the bottom of the lever also fitting into a recess in the shoe. A cylindrical flange-plate E which fits round the joint is fixed by a bolt H, and serves to receive the lower end of the spring D. When the car reverses its motion, the lever C reverses automatically.
