15,509. Williams, L. W. July 3. Point tongues, mounting of.-The blows sustained by railway-point blades from passing vehicles are absorbed or neutralized by means of bolster chairs or clamps. Fig. 3 shows one form of bolster chair which is secured to the sleeper in the usual manner and carries an adjustable bolt 6 for engaging the point blade 4. To cushion the blows, a spring may be mounted on the bolt between the inner face of the chair head and the nut 7. In a modification, the bolt is replaced by an adjustable wedge. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the adjustable bolt is carried by a clamp 1 secured to the stock rail. The chairs or clamps are secured at the point where the blows from the flanges of the wheels take place.
