Abstract

10,062. Glendinning, W. May 2. AÙrial machines with aÙrostats ; propelling and steering.-In order to regulate the altitude of the air ship, air is pumped into or exhausted from chambers c at the front and rear of the aÙrostat. In the arrangement shown, a centrifugal pump e is provided for this purpose. The pump may also be used for filling the aÙrostat with gas by means of a pipe l. When the machine is to ascend, air from the chambers c is either exhausted by the pump or is allowed to escape through a valve o. A safety-valve is fitted to the aÙrostat at m, and openings with valves are provided at n to permit air to flow into the aÙrostat below the gas. Propellers j, k may be fitted at the front, back, and sides of the machine.
