Abstract
9804. Brown, W. P. April 29. Dressing stone, marble, &c. ; copying &c. machines. -A machine for planing or producing curved or irregular surfaces on stone, marble, &c., has a canting arm 8 for the tools, which is adjusted to a given vertical position by the engagement with screws 11 of brackets 12, fitted in open slots in the canting arm, or of nuts 13, provided with projections 14 sliding in slots in the brackets, which in this case are fixed to the canting arm. The stone &c. 6 is secured on the bed of the carriage or on a rocking table 7 mounted thereon, on which are secured templets 15 which may be adjusted vertically by nuts 22 and screw shafts 21 rotated by bevel gear from a hand-operated shaft 18. On traversing the carriage, the templets engage with bowls 17 on the canting arm, which is caused to slide vertically on the nuts by means of the slots and projections 14, the stone thus receiving the same profile as the templets. When the machine is used for this purpose, the balance weights 25 are detached from the canting-arm brackets 26 and suspended from clamps 27.
