3659. Griffiths, A. Feb. 15. Bevelling.-A machine for bevelling, grinding, or polishing glass plates of oval, elliptical, and other shapes is constructed with the spindle carrying the work-holding chuck mounted in a vertical slide, which is operated by a former on the chuck spindle. The glass plate 3 to be bevelled is mounted in a pneumatic chuck 2 of the kind described in Specification 3660/10, mounted on a spindle 1 carried by a member 6 sliding in guides 7. The spindle 1 carries a former 19, the periphery of which rides upon a stationary part 20. The chuck is rotated by worm gear 27, 29, and the slide 6, which is spring - urged downwards, rises and falls under the action of the former. The frame carrying the slide 7 is pivoted at 9 to a slide 10, vertically adjustable in a bracket 12, which is adjustable along a slide 15. The tilt of the frame about the pivot 9 is determined by a screw 34 adjustable to engage the arm 33 of the frame and thereby determine the bevel given to the glass plate. The whole apparatus may be mounted upon a transverse slide which allows it to be transferred from one grinding - disk to another. Specification 9702/04 is referred to.
