Parallel rulers. - Three bars are connected together by links as shown in Fig. 1, to produce a parallel ruler which may be used for any ordinary purpose but is specially adapted for nautical requirements. The long link member 5, which enables the ruler to have an extended reach, connects the three rulers together, and the other links 3, 7 are equal to the upper and lower portions respectively of the link 5, which, however, may be equally divided by the pivot in the ruler 4. On the edges of the outer ruler members 2, 6, suitable scales 10 are marked, which are provided with the indicators 11, 12, sliding in the T-shaped grooves 13 extending from end to end and parallel with the edge of the ruler. The indicators are used to convey a scale-measurement to the edge of the ruler and also to transfer a scale-measurement on a certain course to any part of the chart.
