Abstract

Gas-producers. - In a process for enriching and fixing low-grade producer gas, two gas - generators A', A', charged with coal or coke of good quality, are connected at the top to each other and to two generators B', and are connected at the base by outer pipes D, D' to a tubular boiler F. The connecting-tubes E, E', C, D, D<1> may each be provided with a valve. The generators B', which are charged with peat, sawdust, garbage, or other inferior fuel, are fitted with central air-blast pipes K, and may be replaced by ordinary fire-boxes, in which case a pipe for admitting steam or air enters the ashpit. The generators B<1> are constructed, in any well-known manner, so as to contain deep charges of fuel. In working, fires are lighted in the generators and fed with fuel through the openings a. Gas from the producers is drawn through the mass of incandescent fuel by means of an exhauster connected to the boiler, and may pass through a scrubber and into a holder. To prevent ashes from clogging the generators, thÚ outlet pipes D, D' may be closed alternately, and steam admitted into the generator, thus closed, through one of the valves l, l<1>. The water gas produced passes down the other generator and into the boiler, whence it may be drawn through a pipe G. In a modification, each generator is provided with a hopper which is fitted with an injecting-device for feeding pulverized fuel. The device consists of an air-blast pipe, provided with a valve, for supplying air and spraying fuel into the top of the generator. The mixture is burned to supply the low-grade producer gas, which passes down through the incandescent fuel in the generator, and is stored in a holder.
