Abstract
6111. Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Sir W. G., and Homfray, S. G. March 12. Tipping apparatus.-Relates to tipping-apparatus for railway trucks, in which tipping-frames are pivoted to hoists or cradles provided with two decks, so that either tipping - frame may be operated at will by one set of machinery. The frames b are pivoted to the cage a at b<1> as seen from the Figure. The tipping-rope D is fastened at D<1> to the upper frame, and passes over a series of pulleys in the order shown by the reference letters to the lower frame at D<8>. Of these pulleys, D' is fixed to a hydraulic cylinder, and D' to the ram thereof. The other rope d is joined to the upper frame behind D', and passes by a horizontal pulley d<1> over a similar system of pulleys d', d<3>, d<4>, d<5> to the lower frame behind D<8>. Handlevers e<1> move bolts e<2>, and are connected by a link e so that, withdrawing one bolt, secures the other, whereby one frame only can be tipped at a time.
