Abstract
5985. Frydenlund, K. N. March 11. Plates.-Relates to the manufacture of tiles, plates, and other glazed articles from slate. The slate is finely ground, and is moistened with a liquid consisting of 40 parts of water, 3 of sodium hydrate, 16 of colophony, 30 of sodium silicate, and 1 of kaolin. These proportions may be altered and 5 to 8 per cent. of powdered chalk may be added to the slate. This mixture is moulded under a pressure of 15 to 40 kilogrammes per square centimetre into the desired form, and then, after remaining for some days at the ordinary temperature, the articles are dried for three days at a temperature of 60‹ to 100‹ C., and are finally glazed and burnt at a temperature of 800‹ to 1000‹ C.
