Watering r o a d s.-A device for supplying disinfectant to water fed by hose pipes for flushing roads, consists of a cylinder a, Fig. 1, fitted at one end with a rose or nozzle b and at the other with a screw cap c. The cap is fitted with a pipe d, which is attached to the hose pipe. The cylinder a contains a smaller cylinder g, made of perforated plate or metal gauze, and surrounded by canvas or cloth h, which will permit of the percolation of water through the cylinder. The inner cylinder is provided with a screw cap i, through which solid or liquid disinfectant may be introduced. The inner cylinder may be replaced by a permeable cartridge closed at both ends and filled with disinfectant. The cartridge, when exhausted, may be removed and replaced by a fresh one. In a modified form of cartridge and cylinder, shown in Fig. 4, the perforated cylinder l has a central rod m, which passes through a tube n carried by a plate o on which the cylinder rests. The plate has teeth o<1> to raise it from the bottom of the cylinder in which it is placed. The cartridge consists of a roll p of canvas or gauze, coiled around a paper core q and threaded on the tube n. The disinfectant material, in a powdered or plastic form, is spread between the coils of canvas. By removing the plate o and tube n from the cylinder, the cartridge may be withdrawn and replaced by a fresh one.
