Abstract

4333. Abegg, A. Feb. 22. Loom shuttles of the non-suction type. Firstly, a nail a, b, Fig. 4, secured in the recess c situated between the slot d, Fig. 3, in front of the cop e and the inner end of the thread passage of the shuttle and having a semicircular, conical, taper, or like sectioned head b, is used to give a variable tension to the thread, according to the way in which the thread is passed round it, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. To prevent the thread from leaving the nail shank a, the latter may be formed below its head, with a hook m, Fig. 8. In a modification, an enamelled or externally-plated split metal tube is fixed tightly on the nail shank, to prevent rust when using wet weft, and also to prevent the thread from cutting when weaving linen or silk. Secondly, to prevent the thread from jumping out of the slot d or recess c, one or more bristles, thin steel wires, or other flexible stops h are secured by plugs k in holes i, drilled from the top, side, or bottom into the shuttle in an inclined or other direction, so as to be across the path of the thread.
