Speccation oi' Lettere Patent,
Patented ret. ii, isos.
Application filed February l' 1907. Serial No. 35306331 To all whom 'it' may concern:`
Be it known that l, ERNEST GERHARDTS, citizen of the United States, residing' vat ltfest'broolij, in the county oi Cumberland and State oi Maine, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Tension Devices for Loom-Shuttles; andsl do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as. will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same.
rlhisv invention. relates to a tension device for loom shuttles.
The object of the invention is to provide tension device disposed in the body olI the shuttle 'which is sim le in construction, cheap and durable, an which' will facilitate the regulation ol the tension on the thread. as it is talren from the bobbin, insurinan even and uniform distribution of theilling and securingl the accurate binding of the cloth in Weavine.
, `.Figure l of the accompanying` drawings,
represents a top plan view of the shuttle embodyingthis improved tension device, and havingn parts broken out; Figs 2 represents a longitudinal vertical section thereof; and llig. 3 represents a detail perspective view showing this improved tension device in posi` tion in a shuttle. Y
ln the embodiment illustrated, the shuttle bobbin, l, is of ordinary construction, having any desired form ofbobbin spindle, 2, and bobbin holder, 3, with the ordinary tension device, or shuttle arm, l, and pins, 5, ar.
ranged in a chainber at'the front end thereof. rlhis improvement consists 1n .a tension device arranged in a recess or chamber, at
the end of the bobbin chamber, 7, and separated by a bridge or wall, 8, from the tension chamber 'at the forward end of the shuttle. Extending transversely across the bottom of the chamber, 6, at its rear end are two laterally spaced pins, 15 and 16. Mounted on the lower pin, l5, is a coiled spring, i7, having one end extending forwardly and flared outwardly and having its other end adapted for use as a iiier, 18, forming a hairpin-sha ed member. This ilierli projects liorwar ly in 'the chamber, 6, and is .provided with a rings, or eyes; as 19, any desired number of which may be employed. The pin, 16, is designed as a guard for the spring, 17, to prevent the yarn from becoming entan led therewith. Disposed across said cham er, o, above said arm, 1.8, are a plurality ol' pins, as 20, arranged in stepdilre succession, one
plurality of longitudinally spaced between each of the rin s,' as 19, of the arno, f
13'.- llxtending throui the end wall, or bridge, between the ciarnbcr, 6, and the tension chamber at 'the ront'oi the shuttle, is a thread passage or channel, 9. The arm, Ll, merges at one end into ajcoiled spring, which is mounted loosely on a screw, on which the arm, e, swings laterally. This arm, 4i, is provided with the usual spaced rings with which the pins, 5, alternate. @ne 'end of the spring to which the flier, or arm, 4, is connected, projects into a recess,
12, in. the side of the shuttle andhas con-` nected thereto the spring, 13, disposed in said recess, 12, A thread passage," lll, sie tendsthrough the top wall of the chamber at the front ofthe shuttle.
To thread a'shiittle having'l this improvement applied thereto after av iiiled bobbin has been placed on the spindle, 2, the thread or yarn, 30, is passed over the pin, 16, and the first of the pins, as 20, and then through the rings or eyes, as L9, and over the succeeding pins, as 20, alternately, then through the channel or passage, Q, and around the pins, 5, and through the eyes of the shattlc arm, e, alternately, and then out throu h the opening, lll, in the t'op'wall, and t e shuttle is then ready 'for use.
.l claim as my invention:
1. A loom. shuttle ber, a chamber arran ed in the front end thereof and having a s iuttle arm or tension device operable therein, a chamber arranged between vsaid bobbin chamber and said shuttle arin chamber, and an auxiliary tension device mounted in lsaid intermediate chamber.
2. A loom shuttle having; a bobbin chamber and a chamber at its front end, alatatV having a bobbin oham- I erally swinging shuttle arm disposed in saidl last mentioned chamber, a chamber arranged :1L the.
