Abstract

3763. Newton, H. E., [Worthington, H. R.]. Feb. 15. Condensers; air pumps.-The air and remaining vapour in a surface condenser are mixed with the condensed steam by an ejector, and are withdrawn from the condenser by the ejector and a centrifugal or turbine pump. The water tubes F of the horizontal condenser A communicate with an inlet chamber G for the circulating water and an outlet chamber H, and are connected at the other end of the condenser by a chamber I. The exhaust steam enters the condenser by a pipe B. The air, vapour, and water are withdrawn at the bottom of the condenser by a centrifugal pump D and an ejector L fitted with two cone frustums K and supplied with water by a pipe M. The discharge pipe C is contracted at the point 11 below the ejector.
