Abstract

3659. Parkes, E. H. Feb. 13. Window blinds.- A window blind is connected, at the top and at the bottom, to rollers by means of longitudinal undercut grooves so that the blind may be easily disconnected from the rollers and reversed or turned end for end. For this purpose, the top and bottom edges of the blind a, Fig. 5, are each formed with a hem a' which is inserted in the groove b<1> and held by a rod a<2>. The rod in the upper roller b is held against longitudinal movement by means of the cord pulley and one of the brackets. In the lower roller c, which is used instead of the usual lath, the rod may be held by means of a knob fixed at one end and a knob pivoted eccentrically at the other end of the roller. The blind is preferably formed with an openwork or lace insertion along oue end ; this insertion, when arranged immediately under the top roller, acts as a ventilator. An ornamental edging may be affixed by means of a second groove cut in the underpart of the lower roller c. Instead of using a hem to contain the rod and fix the blind to the roller, the end of the blind may be wound several times round the rod so as to fit tightly into the groove.
