3258. Decent, J. H. Feb. 9. Cleaning pipes and tubes. - Consists in apparatus for cleaning boiler tubes by means of a jet of steam to which a helical motion has been imparted in its passage through the nozzle. The tube B carries a bellshaped centering- piece A, the nozzle A<1> being provided with spiral passages extending to any desired distance within the tube B. The upper part of the tube B is connected to the lower part by means of a swivel joint C constructed as described in Specification No. 4895, A.D. 1878, which may be locked by the thumb-screw C<1>. The cleaner is held in position by the handle E<3>, steam entering through the flexible tube F past the valve D.
