Abstract

1202. Verschave, E. C. F. Jan. 16. Making tubes; bending ; welding. -In a method of manufacturing tubes or tubular fittings and frames for cycles, motor vehicles, and for other r purposes, metal blanks are stamped and pressed or drawn into the form of semicircular, quadrantal, or other circular or corresponding elliptic segments, and welded by means of a blowpipe, by electricity, or otherwise, to diametral, cross, or other-shaped cores, any projecting portions being subsequently removed by grinding, turning, drawing, or filing. The method is described in detail in connection with the steering-fork and main framing of a bicycle. When such tubes are used for circulating water, steam, or other fluids, the cores are perforated. The application to cycle handle-bars is mentioned in the Provisional Specification, which also states that a tube with a diametral core may be made by bending and welding a single blank.
