Abstract

5607. Harvey, C. March 15. Making joints and connections ; stamping.-Relates to the manufacture of tubular joints, the invention being described as applied to a bicycle frame. Projections in the end flanges of the tube are formed by the machine shown in Fig. 10. The tube, with a roughly-formed flange or beading, is held in a divided die i, i<2> carried on a headstock g and formed with suitable projections at the end. A second die with corresponding recesses is forced against the flange by a screw m &c. The projections may be formed by first making a rough beading on the tube and then flattening the beading except at the points where projections are required, in an apparatus similar to that shown The machine may be constructed with two adjustable headstocks, for operating on both ends of a tube.
