649. Featherstone, J. Jan. 11. Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-In the carburetter shown in Fig. 1, hydrocarbons are admitted to the float chamber A, through the spring-controlled valve B, which is operated by the float H, through the levers E F. Air is drawn down through the tubes I; J, the longer tube J being perforated at its lower end as shown. It then passes through the perforated tubular wick N, or some suitable absorbent material, the perforated tube K, the gauze tube 0, and finally through sponge or other similar substance P, to the engine. The absorbent materials P, N extend into the hydrocarbons, and an annular space is provided between each pair of tubes to facilitate the flow of the mixture. If preferred, the tubes I, J may be replaced by a partition perforated to about the same height as the tube J.
