28,282. Howorth, F. W., [Akt.-Ges. vorm. F. Martini & Co.]. Dec. 23. Book-stitching machines ; knotted-stitch machines; knotting; governing needle thread.-In book-stitching machines, the mechanism for forming a knot in the thread is adapted for applying suspension loops to cards and the like. A lever 3 is held against a stop 8, by a spring 4, so as to retain the end 6 in the line of sewing. When the thread has been passed through holes 10, 11, as in Fig. 3, a looper 9 pushes it over the lever end 6 and then carries it forward to make a knot, as in Fig. 5. In this way, the thread can be drawn tight when knotting, but, by means of the lever 3, a loose loop is formed which can serve as a suspension loop.
