Abstract

23,569. Mackay, W. R. Oct. 30. Motor road vehicles.-Consists in forming the axle of a three-wheeled motor-driven vehicle with a removable portion so as to enable the axle to be shortened when desired, the cuter or non-removable portions of the axle being so connected with the frame and steering-lever or shaft that the parallelism of the steering-wheels mounted thereon is always maintained. Fig. 2 shows a plan of the frame of the vehicle, and Fig. 4 is a similar view after the breadth of the wheel base has been reduced. The removable portions a of the axle are flanged at each end, and bolted to the frames g and outer axles b, respectively; when these are removed, the parts bare bolted direct to the frames, as shown in Fig. 4. The steering is effected from the steering-shaft by means of the bell-crank levers o p, s and the links q, u, r, v, as shown, parallelism being effected by making the arms o p, s and the links v of the same length. The bell-crank levers may be replaced by toothed segments if desired. The wheel x is driven by an engine placed just behind the front seat i, and a two speed changegear is fitted beneath the seat j.
