Abstract
6810. McKay, W. R. March 21. Right to Patent relinquished. Slipping of wheels, preventing.-Skidding, in motorcars and similar self-propelled road vehicles is prevented by providing additional wheels at the rear of the vehicle which are geared with the driving-mechanism and arranged to be swivelled simultaneously with the steering-wheels. The additional wheel B is carried by a fork b, the stem b<1> of which is mounted in a bracket c secured to the vehicle frame C, and may be encircled by a spring b<2>. The wheel B is swivelled by cords or rods connected to holes b<x> in a cross-piece b<3> provided on the stem b<1> and to the steering-gear. A suitable form of gearing for driving the wheel B is shown in Fig. 4, in which the vehicle wheel A is driven by chain gearing a' and the wheel B by gearing a<2>, a', through an intermediate shaft A<3>.
