Abstract
18,068. Martin, L. J. Sept. 15. Windows.-Sash stiles are made in two parts A, B, Fig. 2, which are hinged together, the part A being hung by sash cords, and the part B carrying the glass. A bead is inserted in a rabbet on the face of the two parts, and is divided, as shown in Fig. 2. The lower part F is fixed to the hanging stile A, and the upper part E to the swinging stile B, the middle of the bead being hinged or cut longitudinally, as shown at E<1>, F<1>. The two parts G, H, forming the hinge, shown in detail in Figs. 3 and 4, comprise a plate G, which is fixed to the stile B, and carries a shaft bearing a nib G', fitting into a hole H<1> in the plate H, secured to the stile A. The nib bears upon the thickest portion H' of the spiral rib formed on the plate when the window is closed, thus holding it firmly in position.
