Abstract

14,111. Brunstein, A. June 24. Furs.-In order to produce imitation astrachan patterns are burnt upon the skins of sheep, calves, foals, seals, marmots, or other animals by means of heated plates or rollers formed with a relief surface which burns into the wool or hair on the skin. The plates are made in sections fixed to cross-bars in a frame 7 running on rollers 8, and are heated by a furnace 2, charcoal fuel being preferably used. The heated plates are run along on rails over a table 10, which supports the skin and can be raised by a rack and pinion to bring the wool or hair against the plate. The skins are pinned to a wooden board on the table. Stops on the board prevent the skin from being pressed too close to the plate. The plates may be formed with an open pierced pattern, and two plates may be used to produce the complete pattern, each plate having a more open pattern than the complete pattern and a different pattern from that on the other plate, as shown in Figs. 9 and 10. The open plates are fixed by bars 23, Fig. 7, and bolts 29 to a travelling frame. Asbestos or the like may be placed at 28, 30 to lessen conduction of heat away from the plates. Small plates applied by hand may be used.
