Electric motor vehicles.-Relates to a method of retarding the back running of electric tramcars, and consists in fitting the switch or controller with extension contact-pieces so that the motors act as generators, when the cars run backward, and so exert a retarding effect. The contacts B on the controller cylinder C have extensions or additions A, and contact-fingers D ... D<6> are provided. The generator circuits are shown in the Figure. The fingers D<4>, D<6> are connected to the positive poles F, H and the fingers D<2>, D' to the negative poles G, J of the armatures, the fingers D<3>, D<5> being connected to the positive poles L, N of the field magnets, the finger D to the negative pole K, while the negative pole M is connected to earth.
