Abstract

27,181. Hundhausen, R. L. L. Dec. 9. Boring and drilling. - Relates to gearing for connecting a driving to a driven shaft through a countershaft, and consists of an arrangement by which tension is applied to the belts in the case of belt gearing and pressure to the wheels in the case of friction gearing. The countershaft v and the driving-shaft m are supported in movable bearings and the driven shaft n in fixed bearings. The countershaft is supported by the driven shaft, either by the belt and pulleys, as in F igs. 1 and 2, or by the friction wheels, as in Figs. 3 and 4 ; and the driving - shaft is supported from the countershaft by springs which serve to place the belt connecting them under tension, Figs. 1 and 3, or to press together the friction-wheels by which they are geared, Figs. 2 and 4. The driving-shaft m, may be that of an electric or other motor. The shaft a may be the driving-shaft and m the driven shaft ; it may be coupled by flexible shafting or universal joints to a drill or other machine.
