25,837. Kleist, E. de. Nov. 24. Automatic instruments.-In automatic pianos, piano-players, and similar instruments, more particularly those having an exhaust pneumatic action, the vent valves N are adapted to slide across their seats, and are preferably operated by the reds J employed to work the exhaust valves F of the pneumatics. The vent valve N consists of a flat elastic strip, such as spring brass, sliding over the convex face of the seat o, and is adjustably secured to the rod J by screws. The valves of the action are operated by ordinary keys A tripped by the rotary pin-barrel B or by other means. The exhaust valves F are of an ordinary rocking type, and the pneumatics are connected with their complementary-chambers E by the channels h<1>, h<2> extending through the wind board and the shelves G'.
