Abstract
18,882. Shaw, F. H. Aug. 28. Retort and like stands.-A rod a is adjustably connected to the upright of a retort or similar stand or analogous appliance, and is provided with a shoe or holder g, within which is adjustably or fixedly supported a horizontal member b, which may be simply a flat plate, but which, in the form shown, is a casing open at the top. At each end thereof is a bracket or ear b<1>, b<2>, forming bearings for a right and left hand screw c', c<2>, upon which are placed similarly-screwed blocks d<3>, e<3>, having lower portions fitting within the carrier b or within recesses or grooves formed therein. The blocks support the jaws d, e, which are formed of sheet metal and are faced with cork, rubber, leather, wood, &c. In the form shown, the facing is removable, being slid vertically within the jaws, which are shaped as casings open at the front. The jaws may be differently shaped, and the facings may be permanently attached. As the screw c', c<2> is rotated by turning the handle a, the clamps are moved towards or away from one another. Instead of both jaws being adjustable, one may be fixed.
