Abstract

11,189. Diescher, S. E. May 15. Clutches; s h af t couplings.-Relates to coil clutches and couplings. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 show the invention applied as a clutch for a pulley. The two coils 3, 3<a> engage at their outer ends, by means of lugs 8, 8<a>, with abutments formed inside the pulley boss, and at their inner ends, by lugs 9, 9<a>, with a floating-lever 11<a>. This lever may be turned to tighten the coils upon the shaft by means of an inclined projection 12<a> formed on the shell 18, which is fitted over the end of the pulley boss and on the shaft and may be moved to and fro by a lever 19. The abutment for the lug 8<a> is formed by an inclined surface on a rod 16 adjustable endways. In a similar form of the device, used as a shaft coupling, the floating-lever is merely provided with a set-screw to tighten the coils.
