Abstract

8220. Rockatroh, W. M. April 8. Platen presses.-Relates to means for stopping and starting the machine and for preventing accidents to the attendant. The friction clutch f is operated to stop and start the machine by a lever pivoted to a rod c connected to a stopping and starting lever a pivoted at b. The rod c is pressed by a spring p towards the left of Fig. 1, to disengage the clutch and stop the machine. The guard bar k is carried by arms g pivoted on studs h, and one of these arms g has a short arm g<3> connected by a pin and slot with a rod i connected to the arm a<1> of the lever a. Fixed on one of the arms g are also a spring-pressed hook g<1> and. an arm g<2>. When the clutch is engaged, the hook g<2> engages a collar c<1> on the rod c. As the platen s moves up to the bed, the operator's hand, if it remains on the platen, comes into contact with and moves the bar k, and this releases the rod c and stops the machine. When it is desired to stop the machine after each impression, a lever m pivoted at n on the side of the platen is set, by means of a spring bolt o, in such a position that a roller t on it engages the arm g' as the platen moves back after making the impression.
